Women Wellness Satellites

“Three Women Wellness Satellites are set up in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories to form a network with District Health Centres / Expresses (DHC/Es) across all 18 districts of Hong Kong to provide prevention-oriented and more personalised primary healthcare services for women.”

To facilitate provision of prevention-oriented and more personalised primary healthcare services for women, women’s health services under the Department of Health have been integrated into the district health network under the Primary Healthcare Commission. Three Women Wellness Satellites (WWSs) are set up in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories to form a network with District Health Centres / Expresses (DHC/Es) across all 18 districts of Hong Kong to provide comprehensive and convenient health services for women.

The DHC/Es enhances women's health related promotion and education, as well as providing the women's health nurse clinic to encourage self-care management, and through basic health assessment and individual consultations to identify women in need of receiving women's health services at the WWSs.

WWSs focus on addressing specific health needs of women, developing personalised preventive care or specific consultation services for participants based on their health risks and needs, so as to assist them in managing common women’s health issues. Based on risk assessments, WWSs also arrange cervical and breast cancer screenings for women, facilitating early intervention and referrals to family doctors or appropriate institutions (e.g. follow-up with the Hospital Authority (HA)’s specialist services) as needed. WWSs also adopt a co-payment model to provide value-added services, such as breast ultrasound, 3D mammogram, vaccination services (e.g. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine), HPV DNA testing and HPV testing by self-sampling.

Women who are interested in receiving women's health services can register at DHC/Es for initial assessment. Subject to their needs, they will be referred to WWSs for scheduling to receive services.

Service Scope

To cater for the health need of underprivileged women, the DHC/Es will make arrangements for eligible women (including recipients of the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance or recipients of medical waivers) to receive the same preventive women’s health and health promotion services as those provided at the WWSs at selected Family Medicine Clinics under the HA.
