Family and Women Development Summit "Women’s Strengths in Action, Family Values Across Generations"
The Family and Women's Development Summit (Summit) is scheduled for 9 October 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center and is co-organised by Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, Women's Commission and Family Council. Themed “Women’s Strengths in Action, Family Values Across Generations”, the inaugural Summit will invite the officials responsible for policies on women or family from different regions, as well as successful women from various sectors, representatives of families from different backgrounds and non-governmental organisation as guest speakers. They will share their valuable experiences and insights together with the representatives from business sectors and related service organizations on the importance of family and women’s development in building a harmonious society and promoting national development.
The Chief Executive has announced in his 2023 Policy Address to organise the Family and Women Development Summit to collect views from different sectors of the community for formulating more focused measures, thereby supporting healthy development of families and fostering women’s development. The keynote speeches of the Summit focus on “Family and Women’s Development as the Cornerstones of Social Harmony”. Mme. Ma Liejian, the member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation and Member of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council; H.E. Fu Ying, the former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China; The Hon Alice Mak Mei Kuen, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs and other speakers will share the experiences and achievements of different places in promoting family and women’s development, and explore the importance of family and women’s development in building a harmonious society and promoting national development.
The Summit will hold two thematic sessions. Titled “Women’s Strengths in Action”, the first thematic session will bring together successful women from different sectors to explore the roles and contributions of women in driving the economic and social development of Hong Kong. The panel will cover measures taken by various sectors in promoting women’s interests, and the opportunities available for women in different fields. The significance of collaboration among the Government, the business sector and the community in promoting women’s development will also be discussed.
The second thematic session is titled as “Family Values Across Generation”. This session will bring together representatives of families from different backgrounds, relevant organisation and non-governmental organisation to evaluate, from various perspectives, the importance of family education on building a caring and harmonious family, thereby boosting the healthy development of families in Hong Kong. The panelists will also share their experiences and insights on how to build up family relations and communication, including those aspects related to child-rearing and the balance between work and family commitments.
The main target participants of the Summit include representatives from the local and Greater Bay Area women's groups, business sectors and related service organizations. They will exchange experiences on women's development and family education. Exhibition booths will also be set up in the venue to showcase the achievements of women's groups and family service organisations in promoting women's development and family education.
The Hon Alice Mak Mei Kuen, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs stresses that the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region attaches great importance to family and women development, and hope to exchange views through the Summit with those who are concerned about the family and women’s development in Hong Kong, to establish close partnerships with them and to promote the continuous progress made for the family and women’s development in Hong Kong.
