Family-friendly Workplace

To promote and encourage employers to adopt more diversified and flexible family-friendly employment measures, the Family Council launched a series of promotional videos entitled "Family-friendly Workplace". The videos introduced various family-friendly employment practices, including those intended for working women like breastfeeding policy, additional paid maternity leave, paid check-up leave, etc. through the sharing of employers and benefitted employees of different companies/organisations.  The four episodes include:

Episode 1: Richform Holdings Ltd

The employers and employees of Richform Holdings Ltd share their experiences and advantages in implementing various family-friendly employment practices, including breastfeeding policy, parent gratitude allowance and elderly care leave.  These practices fostered a stronger sense of belonging at the workplace, bringing the company’s employee turnover rate below 5% with over 40% of the employees serving the company for more than ten years.

Episode 2: Hung Fook Tong

Hung Fook Tong introduces the family-friendly employment practices of “Summer Vacation at the Office” and “PAWsome Pet-friendly Day”, allowing staff to bring their kids or pets to work.  The former helps staff to balance their work and the need to take care of their kids during summer vacation while the latter creates a much merrier atmosphere at work.  Together with higher productivity and greater creativity, both the employer and employees benefited.

Episode 3: Citybus Limited

Citybus Limited understands new parents’ needs and provides robust support to its staff by offering 6 months of paid maternity leave, 12 days of paid check-up leave and 14 days of paid paternity leave to them.  These family-friendly employment measures not only help employees balance work and family needs, but also assist the company to retain talents and reduce recruitment and training costs, achieving a win-win situation.

Episode 4: The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited

The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) implements family-friendly employment practices such as setting up a staff clinic for its staff and their families, offering scholarships to employees’ children etc.  These practices help reduce employees’ burden in taking care of the health of their families and development of their kids.  Towngas puts in resources to implement these practices which enable staff to focus on their work, have a stronger sense of belonging to the company and reduce the turnover rate.

Episode 5: Wyeth (Hong Kong) Holding Company Limited

Wyeth Nutrition understands the needs of their staff to take care of families and offers flexible work-from-home arrangements to them. Besides, five-day marriage leave is provide to staff preparing to enter into the new stage of life. With company’s support in balancing life and work, staff have a stronger sense of belonging towards the company and greater engagement at work.

Episode 6: Hang Lung Properties Limited

Hang Lung Properties Limited recognises the importance of parental companionship to children's growth and creates positions with flexible working hours that enable parents to return to work while taking care of their children at the same time. Also, the company organises various family activities for its staff. The company’s care to staff leads to increased focus and productivity at work.

Episode 7: Aviation Security Company Limited

The Aviation Security Company Limited has introduced a fixed shift mechanism offering flexible work arrangements to employees that need to work shifts.  The mechanism allows employees to apply for fixed shifts based on their own family needs, so that they may aptly allocate time for both work and family commitments.

Episode 8: The Kowloon Motor Bus. (1933) Ltd.

The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited cares for the needs of its employees and their families in its policy making.  In addition to a scholarship scheme for staff children that eases employees’ financial burden, the company has also set up a charity foundation to tide needy employees and their families over hardships.
