Ingredients of Marriage
The Family Council launched a series of family education videos to provide practical information on building a happy marriage and a harmonious family to couples at different stages of marriage. Composed of eight episodes, the “Ingredients of Marriage”, features a variety of dishes to simulate the experiences of couples at different stages and to demonstrate that a good marriage requires the concerted efforts of both husbands and wives. The eight episodes include:
Episode 1 : Entrée to Marriage
The theme of the first episode “Entrée to Marriage” is sweetness. Through the differences between young couples in preparing wedding, the expert raises for audience's reference, four premarital heart-and-mind preparations which require couples to put them in practice together in order to maintain the sweet taste of marriage effectively. Honour your marriage and season it with love!
Episode 2 : The Sourness of Remarriage
The second episode “The Sourness of Remarriage” takes sourness as the theme. Through the metaphor of don’t overdo dipping dumplings in vinegar, it reminds remarried couple to avoid comparing the past and current marriages. Otherwise, the other half will feel jealous. It’s not a “remarriage” but a “new marriage”!
Episode 3 : The Bitter Toil of Novice Parenting
The third episode “The Bitter Toil of Novice Parenting” takes bitterness as the theme, comparing the toil of childbearing and parenthood to bitter melon. Although the process is hard, as long as the couples work together and try to turn the changes into fun, the bitter melon will be the better melon over time!
Episode 4 : Hotpot and Parenting
The fourth episode “Hotpot and Parenting”, with spicy as the theme, brings out parenting is comparable to having a hotpot meal. The flavours are varied, some are spicy and some are not. The expert suggests ways to reconcile the disagreements in parenting between generations, and also reminds parents not to argue in front of their children.
Episode 5 : Keeping Salted Fish Alive
Keeping marriage alive for elderly couples is explained in the fifth episode “Keeping Salted Fish Alive” which takes salty taste as the theme. It encourages the retired couples to develop common hobbies as a delectable marriage requires cooking by the husband and wife together.
Episode 6 : Cut the Tediousness Out
The sixth episode “Cut the Tediousness Out” targets at elderly couples. The expert hopes to revive their senses of happy marriage, in particular to help them handle negative emotions and “cut the tediousness out” so that they could enjoy marriage.
Episode 7 : Keeping a Marriage Fresh
As suggests by the name of the seventh episode “Keeping a Marriage Fresh”, the expert encourages married couples to arrange exclusive dating time for themselves no matter how long they have been married. They can also share their interesting childhood stories with their children to enhance the marital and parent-child relationships.
Episode 8 : Good Vibes for Good Marriage
The last episode “Good Vibes for Good Marriage” brings out the need for couples to build up positive vibes in their marriages together, e.g. husbands should have a sense of humor while wives should be romantic and witty. In this way, even if they encounter adversity in the future, they could face it in a positive way together.
